On October 4, 2016, Shipbuilder Blohm+Voss flipped the switch and went live with CostFact. Employing a permanent staff of more than 1,000 workforces, Blohm+Voss is one of Germany’s biggest shipyards.
The recent merger of the former independent companies for newbuilding and repair projects requested the unification of their costing systems. After an in-depth evaluation of all relevant software solutions, Blohm+Voss decided to implement the cost management system CostFact in both business units and to replace all previously existing systems for cost estimation, budgeting and quoting by CostFact. Besides adaptions according to the special demands of the ship repair unit, interfaces between CostFact and the ERP system “SAP” were programmed in order to enable the exchange of cost data like unit rates, materials and project budgets. By the utilization of CostFact, Blohm+Voss expects a significant improvement in cost estimation and budgeting processes.
