ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Uses CostFact for New MEKO Product Family

Target Cost Management – ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Relies on CostFact

With its MEKO product design, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems has practiced successful product modularisation for four decades. In order to take into account changing future requirements, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems has now initiated the development of a new MEKO product family. Through its ability to combine civilian and military capabilities, this product family will be able to flexibly cover the entire range of possible requirements – from civilian applications up to the highest military standards.

Due to strained government budgets and worldwide competition, new developments are consistently being oriented along the central theme of target costing. In order to achieve targeted cost control from the beginning, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems uses the “CostFact” cost management system. CostFact was specially developed for naval cost planning, but is also used outside of the naval sector in the development of work and support ships, passenger liners, and in the building of mega yachts. Besides target costing, CostFact also enables the estimation of the effect of capability requirements on costs and the evaluation of alternative drafts from a cost perspective. The advantages ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems can expect from the use of CostFact in comparison with conventional calculation systems include, in particular:

A goal of the system’s use is the simultaneous optimisation of costs and technical value. With this, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will individually fulfil customers’ wishes into the future, and at the same time be able to offer ships with optimum capabilities at a fixed budget.
