New CostFact Feature: AI-Supported Cost Estimation

A new vessel inquiry can be challenging when there is no equivalent historical vessel available in the estimating database. CostFact AI helps estimators create a structured ROM estimate based on the information already available – even when only a limited number of vessel parameters are known.

CostFact AI works with the individual CostFact WBS and generates estimates for each WBS element, including labour hours and material costs. In addition to the estimated values, the AI provides the underlying assumptions, sources and confidence levels, and indicates which additional information could improve the result.

The process starts with a guided interface where vessel information such as ship type, dimensions, technical characteristics and labour considerations can be entered. The estimator can then review and understand the generated results rather than simply accepting the numbers.

CostFact AI is fully integrated into the established CostFact environment. Once reviewed, the AI-generated results can be transferred directly into the CostFact project. This makes AI a supporting element of the existing estimating workflow rather than a separate chatbot or standalone calculation tool.

All data sent to the AI is encrypted using industry-standard security measures and is not used to train the AI model.

With CostFact AI, estimators can start with what they know, understand what the AI assumes, improve the estimate with additional information and continue the calculation directly in CostFact.
